Do you dream of running a business that remains a complete mystery? Do you wish to operate in the shadows, away from the prying eyes of potential customers? Well, congratulations! You’ve come to the right place.
Here at The Room Marketing, we’re committed to helping businesses grow, but today, we’re flipping the script. If you follow these 10 steps religiously, you’ll ensure your website remains buried so deep in the Google abyss that even Sherlock Holmes couldn’t find it.
1. Forget About a Website Altogether
Why go through the hassle of building a website when you can rely on the mystical power of word-of-mouth? Who needs a digital presence when you can hope that strangers somehow sense your existence?
2. Make Your Website as Confusing as a Labyrinth
If you must have a website, ensure it’s a chaotic masterpiece. Avoid clear navigation, hide essential pages, and ensure visitors have no idea where to click next. Bonus points if your homepage auto-plays music from the early 2000s.
3. Use Flash Like It’s 1999
Google loves crawling text… so make sure you put everything inside unsearchable images or Flash animations. If you’re going for digital invisibility, making your entire website a giant JPEG should do the trick.
4. Ignore SEO Completely
What’s SEO? Exactly. Don’t waste your time with keywords, metadata, or alt text for images. Who cares if Google has no idea what your site is about? That just means fewer people to bother you!
5. Choose the Most Generic Business Name Possible
If your business name is something super searchable like “The Coffee Shop,” you’ll blend in perfectly with a million other businesses. If you want to be extra invisible, avoid registering your business on Google My Business altogether.
6. Make Sure Your Site Takes Forever to Load
A slow website is an unfindable website! Fill it with unnecessarily high-resolution images, countless pop-ups, and outdated plugins that take ages to load. By the time visitors give up, Google will, too.
7. Never Update Anything, Ever
Content freshness? Pfft. If you want to stay hidden, keep your website frozen in time. Who needs new blog posts or updated product info when you can proudly showcase your “Upcoming Event – Summer 2013” banner?
8. Don’t Bother with Social Media
Sharing content on social media only increases your online presence—yikes! Instead, keep your accounts inactive, or better yet, don’t create them at all. Your business will remain blissfully unknown.
9. Use a Super Complex, Unreadable URL
If you must have a website, ensure your URL looks like a rejected Wi-Fi password. Something like www.asd98jfdsklfj2398ruadf098.com
is perfect. No one will ever guess it, let alone remember it!
10. Block Search Engines from Your Site
For the ultimate disappearing act, just tell Google not to index your site. A simple robots.txt
file with Disallow: /
will make sure your site stays off search results completely. It’s like SEO… but in reverse!
Want to Be Found Instead?
Of course, if for some wild reason you actually want people to find you on Google (crazy, we know), The Room Marketing is here to help. Whether it’s SEO, website design, or social media marketing, we’ll make sure your business doesn’t remain a ghost story on the internet.
Just give us a shout—unless you’re still committed to digital invisibility, in which case… carry on.
